Accredited Company Training Scheme

Accredited Company Training Scheme (ACTS)

ACTS is designed for companies seeking recognition of their training schemes by the IOP. This accreditation certifies that employers' training programmes provide high-quality training and development opportunities for their employees. By adhering to the approved framework, participants can acquire new skills and knowledge that are essential for their professional growth and applying for a professional registration.

The following seven professional registrations can be conferred through the IOP: Chartered Physicist, Chartered Engineer, Chartered Scientist, Incorporated Engineer, Engineering Technician, Registered Scientist, and Registered Science Technician. Professional registration is a peer-reviewed process that validates an individual’s skills, knowledge, and experience, demonstrating their commitment to ongoing professional development.

"ACTS is vital to us at AWE as it provides external validation that we are doing things right for our early career physicists."

Head of Profession for Physics and Mathematics

Advantages to employers

Accrediting a company training scheme demonstrates an employer’s genuine commitment to their employees’ growth and future prospects. This commitment can significantly increase employee motivation and productivity. The schemes are also designed to meet current business needs and support succession planning.

As an ACTS employer, you will automatically join a wider network where you can exchange ideas, share learning and reflections, and support each other in delivering first-class training to your employees.

Benefits to employees

Organisations that invest in comprehensive training programmes offer employees the chance to seamlessly integrate into the company culture, gain experience in various roles, develop both technical and core skills, build relationships with colleagues across the organisation, and identify future opportunities. Additionally, employees gain a clearer understanding of the company’s values and the significance of their contributions. It also supports employees in developing the skills and competence necessary to obtain professional registration.

“Our staff access IOP training resources and opportunities with special interest groups, and local branches. Together with the IOP, we aim to deliver the next generation of professional physicists to support STFC’s mission of world-leading science and innovation.”
