Grades of Membership
Joining the Institute of Physics
The Institute of Physics offers membership in several categories. Click on a membership grade below for more information.
| Fellowship | - indicates a very high level of achievement in physics and an outstanding contribution to the profession |
| Member | - for those with at least three years post-degree experience during which professional skills have been acquired; the degree being in the physical sciences or engineering or its equivalent |
| Associate Member | - for those who have recently obtained a first degree in the physical sciences or engineering or its equivalent |
| Student Member | - for those who are enrolled on a full-time physics related undergraduate course at university level |
| Affiliate | - for anyone with an interest in physics who wants to support the Institute's objectives but does not have a formal physics background |

Although sending application forms electronically through the internet and email allows us to conserve our resources, we can post copies to you on request. If you would like to receive a printed copy, please email or telephone the Membership Department with your postal address and which category of membership you are interested in.
