Throughout the Institute of Physics website a series of images appear as part of the top level navigation. These images are appropriated from original artwork based on physics materials published in IOP Publishing's Journals. These gallery pages showcase the unaltered imagery, together with their descriptions and sources of reference.

Fred Swist, senior designer at the IOP Publishing has been manipulating and developing scientific imagery for the last five years, and transforming them into new powerful images in their own right. Her fresh approach to exploring the relationship between art and science has attracted interest from the scientific community and beyond. With the support of Jerry Cowhig, managing director and Andrew Giaquinto, art director, Fred Swist continues to explore this field and participates actively with the marketing and promoting of the Institute as a whole. A series of images have been turned into one-off canvas prints and limited edition digital prints, all of which are exhibited in the Institute's headquarters, 76 Portland Place.
